Anxious? This might be your cup of tea
Feeling anxious is a common symptom of the very busy lives we lead these days.
Anxiety is a natural emotional response when one feels overwhelmed, tired, not centered, and ungrounded .
We sometimes undertake loads of work and responsibilities which do not lend themselves to the graceful management of all our daily tasks and engagements. One of the best medicines to implement is to carve out daily rituals, moments in the day where we stop from 'doing' and sit quietly to regroup.
I suggest making a cup of tea.
Making a cup of tea with fresh herbs, teas, flowers and tinctures is a very potent way to heal our body and wash anxiety, to find our breath and reevaluate what is truly important. I love the sound of the kettle when it starts percolating, I love to reach out to my herbs and create a cocktail of delicious fragrance. The strength of the leaves, the delicacy of the flowers, and the pungent smell of the tinctures always catch my attention and remind me how abundant our earth is.
So, if you need to unwind here is one of my favorite recipes:
1 part chamomile flowers (German chamomile is the best).
1 part lemon verbena leaves.
1 part oat straw
1 part passiflora leaves
1 part skullcap leaves
1-2 dropperfuls valerian/wild puppy tincture.
These ingredients are easily found in health food stores.
Combine all herbs in a pot, and cover with boiling water.
Stir well, cover, and steep for 15 to 20 minutes.
Add the tincture to the last few sips of tea, up to four times per day.
